What is Orton Gillingham?
The Orton-Gillingham method is a structured literacy approach to reading, writing and spelling designed to help struggling readers and is regarded as the gold standard for instruction for dyslexic children. OG is a sequential and highly individualized program. We begin by determining your child’s specific needs and work from there to develop every skill needed for your child to become a successful reader.
Orton Gillingham learners often need extra help connecting letters and sounds. Orton Gillingham teachers work to determine how your child learns and adapt their instruction to fit the child. Preschoolers might write letters in shaving cream while making the sound of /s/, while kindergarteners may use legos or blocks to represent individual sounds as they learn to break apart words and blend sounds together. OG is multisensory so students use hearing, sight, movement and touch to develop the skills they need.
